Terry Brandborg established his reputation in Oregon with Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer and Riesling, but he shows his skill with Italian varieties by working with Scott and Kathy West’s Amaranth Vineyard near Oakland, Ore., north of Roseburg. The charming nose of black cherry, sugared plum and grape cola leads to a bright and brisk drink of pomegranate, President plum and Montmorency cherry. That acid profile stays true to the variety, and the diminished presence of alcohol makes it a marvelous food wine, particularly for tomato-based dishes such as lasagna.
