Cadence Winery 2012 Tapteil Vineyard, Red Mountain, $45
By Great Northwest Wine on March 22, 2016
Among the longtime customers that grower Larry Pearson takes particular pride in is Georgetown winemaker/engineer/cyclist Ben Smith. This Left Bank-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (58%), Cabernet Franc (25%) and Merlot offers enticing aromas of blackberry jam on toast, macerated Bing cherry, minerally earth and sarsaparilla. On the pour, expect a rush of chocolate-covered pomegranate and Marionberry jam, flavors framed by a mouth feel of sinewy tannins and rich acidity – an ageworthy combination that fits in with bold reds from Red Mountain. The lingering finish of Craisins and cocoa powder provides delicious alignment.
