For the third straight vintage, Lake Chelan winemaker Jonathon Kludt produces this stylish Merlot from his family’s Williams Vineyard – an estate program headed up by Wapato Point Cellars GM April Kludt Williams. The use of American and Hungarian oak shows skill as the wine offers aromas of Baker’s chocolate, red currant, dark cherry, cinnamon and a bit of char. Unlike many Merlots from Washington, the pivot to the palate is silky, backed by gobs of dark blue fruit and cinnamon. There’s milk chocolate leading to the finish of Rainier cherry and almond skin. The family suggests serving this with beef skewers or Frenched Lamb Chops at the on-premise Winemaker’s Grill.
