Earl Sullivan and Telaya — Wine Press Northwest magazine’s 2016 Idaho Winery of the Year – work with famed Washington grower Dick Boushey for this Boise winery’s most readily approachable red wine to date, a blend of Merlot (40%), Cabernet Franc (40%) and Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 22 months in French oak. Opening aromas include milk chocolate, red currant, blackberry, cinnamon, mint and a whiff of charcuterie. The drink is far from intimidating, offering a stream of easy-to-enjoy flavors as black currant and blueberry lead to a crowd-pleasing juicy finish of Chelan cherry and fresh mint. One panel member remarked, “This would be a fun wine to take to a party.”
