Dusted Valley Vintners 2013 Stoney Vine Vineyard Tall Tales Syrah, Walla Walla Valley, $60
At this point, the federal government won’t allow the Wisconsin boys at Dusted Valley to use The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater as the American Viticultural Area on the label of this wine – even though they own this vineyard. That’s because their winery in Walla Walla is not in the same state as the vineyard – Oregon. Regardless, their latest bottling from Stoney Vine fits the profile of many acclaimed wines from The Rocks, offering notes of saddle leather and forest floor earthiness joined by huckleberry, roasted coffee and grilled red bell pepper aromas. Inside, it’s a big offering of ripe plum, blackberry and dark chocolate, backed by cherry pie acidity, pomegranate skin tannins and a savory finish.
