Argyle Winery 2011 Brut Rosé, Willamette Valley, $50
Cool vintages quite often lead to delicious sparkling wines, and Oregon’s most important bubble house stitched this blend of Pinot Meunier (25%) from Knudsen Vineyards with Pinot Noir (70%) and Chardonnay to perfection. Its light peach color serves as a greeting to aromas of cranberry and red currant with blood orange and Starburst lemon candy. Inside, bright flavors of currant, cherry and rhubarb compote are presented with elegant bubbles and refreshed by tangerine in the finish as pure fruit is backed by great acidity. And fortunately, the appreciation for this bottling has inspired Argyle to quadruple production since 1997. Suggested pairings include Salt-Cod Fritters with Smoked Piquillo Aiolo or smoked holiday turkey.
