Waitsburg Cellars 2014 Boushey Vineyard Three White, Yakima Valley, $17
There’s a growing appreciation in the Northwest for white varieties native to the Rhone Valley, and the Precept Wine collaboration among wine critic Paul Gregutt and winemaker Jon Zimmerman – who took over from acclaimed vintner Ron Bunnell – continues to grow. Their relationship with grower Dick Boushey allows for this Marsanne-led blend with Picpoul and Grenache Blanc to create fun aromas of Kettle Corn, caramel apple, Graham Cracker crust and a dusting of cinnamon. There’s a creamy entry and rich midpalate of baked apple pie and dried pear flavors. Pleasing underlying acidity with a touch of caramel create the lip-smacking finish that’s suggested to pair nicely with oysters.
