The late Joan Davenport operated Wine Country Farm as an acclaimed B&B and tasting room in Oregon’s Dundee Hills until breast cancer claimed her in the spring of 2013, but her wines from vines sunk into jory soil back in 1970 continue to shine. The fruit-forward nose from this warm vintage offers hints of cherry jam on toast, backed by black currant with raspberry. That profile continues with bright and round flavors of high-toned red fruit, a dusting of cocoa powder, modest tannins and juicy acidity as a touch of currant skin lingers in the finish.
