Westport Winery NV Duckleberry Grunt, Washington, $27
Dana Roberts’ blend of Gewürztraminer and blueberry remains one of the Washington coastal winery’s most popular wines with consumers and critics. The nose of Hostess berry pie also brings hints of cherry, vanilla and drip coffee. On the palate, it’s incredibly fruity and juicy with Marionberry and blueberry flavors. Lingering sweetness is expected, but the acid profile nicely balances the traditional level of 13% residual sugar, and Westport has more than doubled its production in recent years. This wine already has earned a pair of silver medals on both coasts – the Finger Lakes International in New York and the Capital Food and Wine Competition in Olympia. The Grays Harbor Ducks Unlimited chapter receives a donation based on the sales of the Duckleberry, and the Roberts’ on-premise restaurant suggests pairing this with its Country Quiche.
