Finn Hill Winery 2012 Rosebud Vineyards Bon Mot Cabernet Franc, Wahluke Slope, $35
The Dobson family is well into its third generation of farming their 400 acres of vineyards across several blocks along the eastern end of the Wahluke Slope — plantings established in the fall of 1978, just ahead of one of the state’s harshest winters in the 20 century. Bon mot is a French phrase for a witty remark, yet Woodinville winemaker Rob Entrekin treats these three barrels of Cabernet Franc with tremendous respect, allowing for the emergence of aromas hinting at sweet herbs, dusty red cherry, blackberry, milk chocolate and a fresh cedar frond. The entry is rich and elegant as plum and Marionberry lead to a bite of blueberry in the finish.
