Cloudlift Cellars 2014 Updraft Sauvignon Blanc-Sèmillon, Columbia Valley, $18
Two of Washington state’s most respected parcels — Sagemoor Farms’ Bacchus and Dionysus — combine for this white Bordeau blend that underwent different fermentations, stainless steel for the Sauvignon Blanc and neutral barrel for the Sèmillon. Engaging aromas of orchard fruit and melon pick up pinches of white pepper and ground mustard. It comes across with crisp pear and Golden Delicious apple flavors, which lead into butter and toast on the midpalate and a finish of dried lemon peel and lime pith. Suggested pairings include Halibut with Beurre Blanc, oysters or Grilled Spot Prawns with Sriracha Lime Vinaigrette from Lenny Rede of Esquin Wine & Spirits.
