Convergence Zone Cellars 2011 Squall Line Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Mountain, $32
Woodinville winemaker Scott Greenberg spends a fair bit of time on Red Mountain, and he sourced this Cab from E&E Shaw Vineyard, gathering up Cabernet Franc (10%) and Malbec (2%) from the Hedges family’s Bel Villa Vineyard to add complexity. It’s a remarkably expressive drink, starting with aromas of cherry pipe tobacco, dusty plum and dried strawberry, joined by dark chocolate shavings, black pepper, mahogany and molasses. There’s supreme balance to the harmonious drink of black currant, black cherry and ripe raspberry with succulent tannins and cocoa powder. Sweet blueberries make for a gentle finish. These wines are available at wine merchants around the Puget Sound, Amazon.com and Vinoshipper.com, and this wine merited a gold medal and best of class at the 2016 Capital Food and Wine Festival Wine Competition.
