Daven Lore Winery 2012 Lonesome Spring Ranch Grenache, Yakima Valley, $35
By Great Northwest Wine on May 24, 2016
Colin Morrell’s site served Prosser winemaker Gordon Taylor better than ever in 2012, starting with a harvest that came Oct. 25, which was 10 days earlier than the vintage prior. There’s an enticing savory note of tapenade to the aromas, which also offer dusty cherry, bright red currant, cocoa and fresh caramel. There’s more caramel and juicy red fruit on the palate – raspberry and strawberry – with delicious lingering Montmorency cherry acidity and little in the way of tannin. It’s a brilliant example of Grenache grown in Washington. Suggested pairings include pan-seared oysters, lemon pepper chicken, blackened salmon and Chocolate Mousse.
