Smasne Cellars 2012 Red Heaven Vineyard Petite Sirah, Red Mountain, $44
By Great Northwest Wine on May 25, 2016
Yakima Valley winemaker Robert Smasne works with one of the region’s top viticulturists, Damon LaLonde, for this dark and lovely Rhône variety that’s on the rise in Washington. Dusty oak aromas are joined by plum, black cherries rolled in cocoa powder, dried strawberries and perfumy lilac. Bold black currant, plum and boysenberries flavors stay focused amid flannel-like tannins and pomegranate acidity that make this a remarkably balanced Petite Sirah. Look for this in his Woodinville tasting room and soon at his new winery in Prosser at the former Olsen Estates facility.
