Just across the Columbia River from Washington’s Horse Heaven Hills is Rattlesnake Road Vineyard, an Arlington, Ore., planting that serves as the source of Cabernet Franc for Carlton winemaker Byron Dooley. This represents one of five Bordeaux-style wines he makes under his Chateau Figareaux lineup, and his expression of Cabernet Franc offers aromas of strawberry fruit leather, cola and currant with crushed herbs and fresh dill. Flavors of red currant, raspberry and Montmorency cherry are presented in a lighter style that’s easy drinking.
