Cerebella Wines 2013 Merlot, Walla Walla Valley, $25
Two military veterans – former Army medic Robb Zimmel and former Marine Jon Unruh – combined forces to recently launched Cerebella Wines as part of their Zimmel Unruh Cellars operation. Their debut vintage with Merlot offers aromas of blackberry, poached plums, dark chocolate, black olive, lime peel and lilac followed by a rich and brooding flavor structure that explodes with black currant and more blackberry. Focused tannins, pomegranate acidity and sweet vanilla provide pleasing length. These wines are available in the Tri-Cities at Cheese Louise, Grill on Gage, Italiano’s Serious Pies & Pasta and Wine Notes, as well as The Grant House and Vintopia back in their hometown of Vancouver, Wash.
