Spangler Vineyards 2012 Petit Verdot, Oregon, $50
By Great Northwest Wine on June 20, 2016
Umpqua Valley winemaker Patrick Spangler focuses much of his attention on red Bordeaux varieties, and he’s provided a fascinating example of this grape that’s traditionally a blender in France. Robust aromas of fresh rosemary and toast lead to aromas of Bing cherry, black fig, cola, horehound and anise. Flannel-like tannins present flavors of dark blueberry, blackberry and plum. A long finish of pomegranate and fresh herbs set the table for rosemary-rubbed pork loin.
