O•S Winery 2013, BSH Cabernet Sauvignon, Yakima Valley, $50
The combination of winemaker Scott Greer with Sheridan Vineyard continues to elevate the program at this longtime Seattle winery once known as Owen Sullivan. They’ve changed the scale of this program, dropping from 225 cases down to little more than two barrels of production, and the blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (75%), Merlot (15%) and Cabernet Franc shows beautiful integration. Nearly two years in a program of 60% new French oak offers aromas of French roast coffee beans and mocha with dusty black cherry and blueberry fruit, backed by American Beauty rose petal, violet and lavender. There less oak influence and more fruity features on the palate, leading with more black cherry and followed by black currant. Fine-grained blueberry skin tannins, Marionberry acidity and graphite minerality make for an age-worthy structure and pleasing finish.
