Chateau Ste. Michelle 2013 Limited Release Austral Red Wine, Columbia Valley, $36
It’s already one of Washington state’s most visited tourist destinations, but Chateau Ste. Michelle adds to its allure with this special winery/online exclusive Limited Release tier. Bob Bertheau’s red wine team developed this delicious Southern Rhône-style GSM blend of Grenache (60%), Syrah (30%) and Mourvèdre. It’s a classic and complex wine with dark toasty aromas that offer fig, cured meat, green peppercorn and sweet red bell pepper. Bright red-fruit acidity akin to fresh raspberry arrives early as the Syrah adds a viscous plummy coat to the fleshy midpalate. Toast and charcuterie flavors lead into a finish of espresso-ground tannins and bittersweet chocolate.
Rating: Outstanding!
Production: 350 cases
