Ontario native Mary McDermott began her journey with wine as a sommelier in Vancouver, and this marks her second vintage on British Columbia’s Naramata Bench after her rise through the winemaking ranks at Canadian conglomerate Andrew Peller. She’s proven to be a quick study in the Okanagan Valley. This aromatic blend of Gewürztraminer (50%), Pinot Gris (40%) and Riesling is drawn from four vineyards, including off the estate near the winery. Nicely balanced floras offer Ambrosia salad with melon, peach and pear as well as rose petal. Those tones filter onto the palate with a sense of elegance as a flick of spritzy acidity provides nice tension to the residual sugar (1.4%). Pairing ideas include spicy Caribbean fare and Indian dishes or with light orchard-based desserts such as peach sorbet or pear tart.
