The collaboration among renowned German producer Armin Diel and Walla Walla winemaker Gilles Nicault continues to produce harmonious Riesling in Washington state for the Long Shadows Vintners portfolio. Classic notes of Granny Smith apple, lime zest and minerality lead to clean and elegant flavors of Golden Delicious apple and ripe pear. The residual sugar remains dialed in about 1.25%, making for a long and tasty finish. This spring, it earned a gold medal at the Walla Walla Valley Wine Competition for the third straight year, and production climbed more than 200 cases from the 2014 vintage.

Maybe the competition was weak, and that’s why it won? This vintage is nowhere near as good as prior ones. Is anyone with a nose and taste buds and some longevity paying attention?
