Columbia Valley winemaker Victor Palencia ranks among the Pacific Northwest’s premier producers of aromatic white wines, and he shows his skill here for the Jones family with the obscure red Bordeaux variety Carménère. It offers enticing aromas of blackberry, loganberry and cherry juice with alluring light toast and herbal notes of green peppercorn. The pour brings smooth flavors that continue the dusty dark blue fruit theme amid a tannin structure that shows restraint, allowing for a finish of peppercorns, black cherry and minerality. Wines from Wine Press Northwest magazine’s 2012 Washington Winery of the Year are available in their Quincy tasting room as well as the Pybus Public Market in Wenatchee.
