Canoe Ridge Vineyard 2015 The Expedition Rosé, Columbia Valley, $15
Best Buy! Walla Walla Valley winemaker Bill Murray continues to champion the cause for showcasing the virtues of Rhône varieties in rosé. As Precept’s director of Idaho winemaking, he has supported Meredith Smith’s stunning pink program at Sawtooth, starting with Cinsault from 2013 and recently Grenache. For his latest release at Canoe Ridge Vineyard, Murray led with Grenache (64%) and incorporated Roussanne (23%) and Counoise (8%) with a dash of Lemberger (5%), and the attraction begins with its light strawberry color. Aromas of cherry juice, dried cranberry and celery leaf carry into more cherry and red currant flavors on the entry. There’s pleasing midpalate weight with plum juice, which leads to a clean, crisp finish blending pink strawberry and watermelon with raspberry acidity.
Rating: Outstanding!
Production: 1,250 cases
