Of all the wines produced within the Long Shadows Vintners constellation, the Cabernet Sauvignon made under the auspices of Napa maverick Randy Dunn might be the most age-worthy. While 100 percent Cab, they are a blend of three vineyards near the Columbia River – Weinbau on the Wahluke Slope, Sagemoor’s Dionysus and The Benches in the Horse Heaven Hills. Endearing aromas of black cherry, blackberry and Western serviceberry include espresso, toffee, bittersweet chocolate and charcoal. The delivery to the palate is gorgeous with cherry and plum flavors joined by fine-grain blueberry seed tannins. Pomegranate juice adds to the structure, which leads out with bittersweet chocolate. While the listed alcohol by volume undoubtedly rubs Dunn the wrong way, it doesn’t stand out in the finish.
