Henry Estate Winery NV Veraison, Umpqua Valley, $15
By Great Northwest Wine on October 1, 2016
Best Buy! Scott Henry and his team pull Pinot Gris off their historic vineyard near Sutherlin, Ore., for this cross-vintage, blush-style offering that’s one of the family’s most popular bottlings. Aromas of raspberry and white peach are joined by sweet herbs, white pepper and alder smoke. Flavors of strawberry nectar, peach and red bell pepper lead to a sweet midpalate (2.8% residual sugar) that achieves balance with cherry-skin tannins, rhubarb compote and a pinch of Italian herbs. Suggested pairings include turkey, pork, light cheeses and melon.
