The Mercer family continues to grow its reach while promoting the Horse Heaven Hills growing region with this second label that’s available across the country in 47 states thanks to its partnership with industry giant Southern Wine and Spirits. Dead Canyon Vineyard and vaunted Spice Cabinet fruit are funneled into an oak program of French and American barrels for 17 months. That accounts for aromas of brownie mix, black currant, mint and char. What follows are hedonistic flavors of black cherry, milk chocolate, vanilla and blackberry pie as ample acidity and well-managed tannins make for an easy drink with good grip in the background. In the Pacific Northwest, look for this new pencil-illustrated label at Albertsons, QFC and Yoke’s Fresh Markets.
