Domaine Trouvére 2013 Viognier, Rogue Valley, $25
The Lange family of the Dundee Hills launched this sister label not as a path to declassification but rather to explore small lots beyond their estate. This work with Viognier from the Rogue Valley ranks among Oregon’s best. Alluring aromas of orange blossom, Pink Lady apple, lemon curd and orange cream include just a hint of oak in a lingerie fashion. Flavors of fleshy orchard fruit akin to white peach, pear and apple make for a rich entry and a plush midpalate. And yet the presentation of acidity allows it to play nicely with seared halibut, grilled chicken with mango avocado salsa, green salads and rice dishes. And to make the distinction more clear, Don and Wendy Lange, along with their winemaking son, Jesse, operate a tasting room downhill in downtown Dundee that’s open daily near the popular Red Hills Market.
