Valley View Winery 2013 Anna Maria Viognier, Applegate Valley, $22
One of Oregon’s most established winemaking families continues to shine with Viognier in the historic Applegate Valley, and John Guerrero crafts this into a fun and festive white. There’s no oak involved, and the theme is of tropical aromas and flavors of pineapple, orange sherbet and jasmine tea. It’s available in Costco stores throughout the state, wine merchants and grocers in Southern Oregon and distributed in Japan and Taiwan.

Rio Vista Wines 2015 Antoine Creek Vineyard Viognier, Columbia Valley, $25
Two years ago, owner/winemaker John Little won best of show in the North Central Washington Wine Awards for the 2013 vintage of this delicious white wine, and he’s proving that was no fluke. It’s an elegant wine with aromas of tropical fruit, honey and grapefruit, followed by flavors of pineapple and orange. The rich midpalate is backed by surprisingly bright acidity that leads to a lengthy finish. This is a delicious example of Viognier. This won gold and best of class at the 2016 Wenatchee Wine & Food Festival wine competition.
