Tamarack Cellars 2014 Cabernet Franc, Wahluke Slope, $30
Ron Coleman is closing in on 20 years of winemaking in the Walla Walla Valley, and he’s focused Tamarack Cellars’ latest release of Cabernet Franc on Weinbau Vineyard, a historic site within one of Washington state’s hottest growing regions. That helps to explain why there is just a touch of mint in this Cabernet Franc that’s focused on lots of rich fruit amid a balanced structure. Aromas of dark cherry, black currant, blueberry and French oak vanilla spice carry into a creamy mouth feel of black currant, elderberry and blueberry. Fine-grained tannins and raspberry acidity are capped by a touch of chocolate.
