Chris and his wife Dawn Loeliger have come a long way from their time in the Lone Star state quaffing wine from their camping cups. Much of the portfolio emerging out of their production facility in Woodinville, Wash., is focused on red blends using fruit from top vineyards. Here, they took Syrah (60%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) and Cabernet Franc from three distinct growing regions — Dineen and Elephan Mountain vineyards in the Rattlesnake Hills, Patina Vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley and the Williams family’s Heart of the Hill on Red Mountain. Gorgeous aromas of cherry juice, plum and rose petal include mocha from 20% new French oak barrels. Delicious acidity arrives early and leads to a blossoming of tannins among long flavors of black currant and President plum.
