Chateau Ste. Michelle 2015 Harvest Select Sweet Riesling, Columbia Valley, $9
Best Buy! This marks the sixth bottling of this rather off-dry Riesling, which Bob Bertheau started as a collaboration with Wendy Stuckey before she returned to her native Australia. David Rosenthal has taken over the white program for her, and the residual sugar has been bumped up 4.7%, which takes it to the right side of medium-sweet on the scale from the International Riesling Foundation Tasting Profile. Lightly tropical aromas include jasmine and lime, which are joined on the palate by yummy flavors of pear and Honeycrisp apple. The presentation of sweetness is delicious, balanced amazingly by the total acidity (6.8). It all makes for a wine that’s difficult for a judge to spit and easy to pair with a fruit and cheese plate, spicy Asian fare and Dungeness crab.
