Tinhorn Creek Vineyards 2015 Oldfield Series 2Bench White, Okanagan Valley, $20
Sonoma County product Sandra Oldfield, a proud graduate of University of California-Davis, continues to prove that British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley ranks among the best wine growing regions on the West Coast. This latest blend of her family’s vineyards on the Black Sage Bench and the Golden Mile Bench is a remarkable melange of Chardonnay (29%), Sauvignon Blanc (27%), Viognier (26%), Sèmillon (13%) and Muscat. Portions of the Sauvignon Blanc and the Viognier experienced some French oak, but most of this blend was nurtured in stainless steel. The nose is widely expressive with hints of kiwi, lemon/lime, crushed filberts, jicama and tutti frutti. While the flavors feature pineapple, pear and apple, its hallmark is the fascinating mouth feel that provides a sense of tannin, nuttiness and burst of citrusy acidity. At the on-premise Miradoro Restaurant, suggested pairings off the menu include Albacore Tuna Putanesca Calamarata or Grilled Ocotopus.
