Sparkman Cellars 2014 Holler Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, $32
The Honorary Vintner for the 2017 Auction of Washington Wines – Sparkman Cellars – soared up Wine Spectator’s Top 100 list last year with the 2013 Holler. The Sparkman family and head juiceman Linn Scott back that up with this suave sensation, the Woodinville winery’s flagship Cab that thinks and drinks like a Meritage through its blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (75%), Merlot (10%), Malbec (5%), Petit Verdot (5%) and Cabernet Franc. They pulled heavy from Red Mountain with Obelisco, Kiona and Klipsun, but Dionysus and Olsen came into play, too. A span of 19 months in 30% new French wood frames the nose of blueberry cobbler, cherry cola and toast with flavors to match. Resolved tannins make it quite approachable as berry juice and baking spices combine for long and remarkable finish. Reach out to your favorite wine merchant because this third edition of Holler already has cleared the tasting room.
