Airfield Estates 2015 Rosé, Yakima Valley, $15
Best Buy! Prosser winemaker Marcus Miller in Washington’s Yakima Valley continues to rely on Sangiovese for rosé from his family’s historic farm, nearly a 1,000 acres of it gradually transitioned since World War II to grape vines. The light strawberry juice color brings aromas of strawberry and watermelon with apricot and facial powder notes. The pleasing mouth feel offers dry flavors of Rainier cherry and plum juice, which are joined by boysenberry acidity and rhubarb compote tartness. It’s a food-friendly pink, and the region’s embrace of rosé prompted Miller to increase production by more than 50 percent over the 2014 vintage.
