Milbrandt Vineyards 2014 Ravenscliff Vineyard Single Vineyard Series Malbec, Wahluke Slope, $42
Before her departure to California, Eastern Washington University grad Emily Haines crafted this stunning Malbec from Butch and Lisa Milbrandt’s vineyard on the warm Wahluke Slope near Sentinel Gap. It’s a rich, complex effort with aromas of bacon, chocolate, purple plum and smoked meat, followed by flavors of red fruit and boysenberry. Thanks to incredibly balanced acidity, this is loaded with bright fruit flavors. It won a gold medal and best of class at the 2017 Wenatchee Wine Awards, and these wines are available at their stylish new tasting gallery in Woodinville’s Hollywood District as well as their quiet tasting room in Prosser’s Vintner’s Village.
