The delicious and well-sourced Cabernet Sauvignon that didn’t quite fit Randy Dunn’s narrow focus for his Feather project forms much of the base for the sister label of acclaimed Long Shadows Vintners in Walla Walla. Weinbau, one of the state’s most venerable vineyards on the Wahluke Slope, takes the lead in this blend that spent 18 months in French oak. What emerges is a fruit-forward bottling of black cherry, plum and raspberry jam on toast. The mouth feel is quite pleasing with tannins akin to plum skins, blueberry acidity and a silky finish of milk chocolate. This earned a gold medal at the 2017 Savor NW Wine Awards, and with any luck this will be among the Nine Hats wines on offer at the Seattle Lamb Jam on June 25 in SoDo.
