Double Canyon 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Horse Heaven Hills, $25
Crimson Wine Group, with headquarters in Napa, established Double Canyon Vineyard in Washington’s Horse Heaven Hills in 2007, the same year CEO Patrick DeLong and vineyard manager Will Beightol came on board. The 90-acre Double Canyon Vineyard is hitting its stride, but nearby Phinny Hill Vineyard (farmed by Beightol’s family), famed Champoux and Destiny Ridge vineyards also contribute to this. Enticing aromas of cherry jam and blueberry taffy are joined by dried strawberry, Graham Cracker and baking spices. Black cherries in dark chocolate and Craisins lead the flavors that are bounded by a long grip of tannins, Chai spices and a juicy pomegranate finish. These wines are available in downtown Seattle’s Pioneer Square at The Estates Wine Room, where they are poured along with two other Crimson brands – Walla Walla’s Seven Hills Winery and Archery Summit from Oregon’s Dundee Hills.
