South Puget Sound winemaker Dana Madsen’s first commercial vintage came in 2005, and Cabernet Franc was one of the first varieties that he started with when he began working with Red Mountain fruit in 2005. He’s since branched out to vineyards such as McKinley Springs in the Horse Heaven Hills, Jordan near the Columbia River and StoneTree on the Wahluke Slope. Francophiles will appreciate the aromas of raspberry, Montmorency and a pinch of mint. Those lead to flavors of cherries and black currant as a rather viscous midpalate transitions to a firm grab of tannins with toast and herbal notes in the finish. It is showing little sign of slowing down and ready to enjoy with game hen, quail or meatloaf.
