Vital Wines 2016 Rosé, Walla Walla Valley, $18
A party for celebrities in Hollywood on the eve of the Academy Awards raised the profile of Vital Wines/March Cellars and the fundraising work that winemaker Ashley Trout is performing on behalf of SOS Health Services in the Walla Walla Valley. Her latest Provence-colored rosé of Sangiovese comes off Seven Hills Vineyard, and the nose is one of dusty Rainier cherry, white peach and melon. Its filled with finesse and beautifully crisp all the way through the flavors of cherry, white strawberry and clementine. The fanfare and support for Trout’s Vital project meant that nearly 90 percent of her rosé production was sold prior to its release. A few bottles were available in restaurants such as Whitehouse-Crawford prior to Celebrate Walla Walla Wine Weekend. Enjoy with Japanese-style Fried Chicken, light appetizers or barbecue fare.
