Underwood 2015 Rosé, Oregon, $14
Best Buy! The entry level for Union Wine Company has varied each approach with its rosé, some years leading with Pinot Gris while opting for blends using Pinot Noir and Syrah in others. Regardless, JP Caldcleugh – among the North American invitees to the exclusive 2017 International Pinot Noir Celebration – knows how to develop balance. At this point, the 2015 is showing a salmon color reminiscent of rose from Provence with aromas of creamy strawberry, apricot and peach fuzz. The rich mouth feel brings flavors of cherry, pink strawberry and blood orange with spot-on bright acidity akin to tangerine. Ryan Harms and Caldcleugh offer this rosé in bottle and in a can. Our panel evaluated each format under blind conditions, and both earned our top rating. The cans are available in a four-pack for $24.
Rating: Outstanding!
