Cloudlift Cellars 2014 Halcyon Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, $30
By Great Northwest Wine on July 1, 2017
Northwest Wine Academy product Tom Stangeland has focused his award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon program on Sagemoor Vineyards, particularly the old vines from historic Block 10 in Bacchus Vineyard. These old soldiers, believed to be clone 8, were planted in 1972. At this point in their life, they are low yielding and produce wines of elegance with density. Enticing aromas of black currant, blackberry, toast and mint chocolate chip are realized on the palate within a medium structure of tannin. Its finish brings hints of black cherry cobbler and mocha.
