Airfield Estates 2015 Vineyard Salute Flygirl White, Yakima Valley, $15
Best Buy! The history surrounding Airport Ranch near Sunnyside, Wash., reaches back to World War II when it served as an Army Air Corps base, both for training and Manhattan Project protection. And this wide-ranging white blend makes for a delicious tribute to that past, showing blending skill with Roussanne (34%), Pinot Gris (27%), Viognier (25%), Gewürztraminer (10%) and a splash of Chardonnay. The approach is fun with aromas of pineapple taffy, Big Hunk nougat, lemon and touch of minerality. And yet, the landing is bright and bone-dry with flavors of dried apricot, melon and Bosc pear, bcked by a lemony finish. The Miller family suggests pairing this with bouillabaisse, pâté, goat cheese or Gruyère, Thai-inspired fish cakes or Chicken Alfredo.
