One of Woodinville’s top artisans with Rhône varieties – white and red – offers vineyard-designated Syrah from both ends of the Yakima Valley. Lewis Vineyard is toward the eastern end of the American Viticultural Area. The Sauer family established iconic Red Willow Vineyard at the opposite end of the vally in the foothills of Mount Adams, and it’s a classic example of a Washington cool-climate Syrah, harvested Sept. 18. The oak treatment of 15 months in 20% new French puncheons by Noah Fox Reed offers lots of spice with cinnamon, cola and clove joined by fruit compote of blackberry and blueberry. Those notes of matched upon the big and rich palate, finished by elderberry skin tannins that would be ideal with Duck Confit.
