Coyote Canyon Vineyard in the northern reaches of the Horse Heaven Hills is a veritable bread basket for a growing number of winemakers on both sides of the Cascades and the Columbia River, and Burnt Bridge Cellars in Vancouver, Wash., used Mike Andrews’ former cattle ranch to create a hedonistic and juicy Syrah. Barrel aromas of vanilla are joined by blueberry, violets, leather, cherry tomato and charcoal. On the palate, it’s akin to spoonful of blueberry cobbler with a Graham Cracker crust. Resolved tannins and zingy boysenberry acidity combine to give it a light to medium body, and the finish includes drop of vanilla extract.
