Stina’s Cellars 2013 Sémillon Ice Wine, Wahluke Slope, $65
Rosebud Vineyard, a historic 40-year-old site on the Wahluke Slope, is the breadbasket for Tacoma-area vintner Perry Preston. Sémillon is one of two white Bordeaux varieties produced by third-generation growers Chip and Katie Dobson, and this lot was harvested at 39 Brix. It is showing beautifully with aromas of clove, orange peel and almond extract, backed by rich tropical flavors of papaya, mango and pineapple. A nibble of apricot peel and a wealth of acidity provide delicious balance to the residual sugar of 23% residual sugar. This earned a gold medal at the Pacific Rim International Wine Competition and matched that at the 2017 Capital Food and Wine Food Festival Wine Competition.
