Chris Sparkman, the Honorary Vintner for the 2017 Auction of Washington Wines, leads with Red Mountain sites Klipsun and Obelisco for this Left Bank Bordeaux-inspired blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (67%), Malbec (11%) and Merlot (11%) with the Petit Verdot arriving last to his Woodinville crush pad on Oct. 19 from lofty Olsen Brothers Vineyards near Prosser. The 22 months in 56% new wood, a blend of French producers Mercurey, Seguin Moreau, Taransaud and American white oak from Canton builds aromas of heavy toast, dark cherry, coffee and blueberry. It’s a mouth-filling blend of dusty cherries, pomegranate and vanilla, backed by more toast. Savor it with prime rib or a porterhouse.
