Beresan Winery 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Walla Walla Valley, $35
Founder/grower Tom Waliser pulled from his Yellow Jacket and Waliser vineyards, two of the oldest sites in what is now The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater, and winemaker Tom Glase wove the fruit into a complex example of Cabernet Sauvignon from a stellar vintage. It’s beautifully expressive, deep and complex with cassis, tobacco, patchouli, leather and spice. In this case, the oak supports the purity of the currant and blueberry flavors as raspberry acidity and smooth tannins strike a brilliant balance. One judge went so far as to describe it as “orgasmic,” and they were unanimous in awarding it a double gold at the fifth annual Walla Walla Valley Wine Competition.
