Best Buy! Abiqua Creek and the climate created in the Cascade Foothills east of Salem, Ore., combine to allow Pete Buffington to grow and craft some of the Northwest’s most aromatic wines at Abiqua Wind Vineyard. Across his 11 acres are Pinot Gris, Müller-Thurgau, Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Early Muscat. After nearly 40 years of growing among each other, the roots are intertwined, hence the name of his cool-climate five-grape blend. Fanciful aromas of lychee, fruit cocktail, starfruit and pear don’t disappoint, however they are presented essentially without any perceptible sweetness, making for a crisp finish. Buffington presents this for light and delicate seafood found at Southpark in Portland and Squaxin Island Seafood Bar at Little Creek Casino Resort in the South Puget Sound.
