The Conqueror Winery 2014 Red Blend, Horse Heaven Hills, $27

the conqueror winery red blend nv bottle - The Conqueror Winery 2014 Red Blend, Horse Heaven Hills, $27Napa-native Bill Murray worked extensively with Canoe Ridge Vineyard during his time as a Walla Walla winemaker for Precept, and he leads this big but approachable red blend with Cabernet Franc. However, the influence of Syrah (25%) is obvious. Aromas and flavors of Rainier cherry, blueberry jam on toast and orange oil include a pinch of mint. The frontal tannins are smoothed out on the midpalate by Syrah, and there’s some lingering hedonism from alcohol and the 20 months in 50% new French oak that hints at coffee. These wines are available in the Northwest at Albertsons and sister grocer Safeway.
