Desert Wind Winery 2016 Estate Chardonnay, Wahluke Slope, $15
By Great Northwest Wine on March 2, 2018
Best Buy! The Fries family began to plant Desert Wind Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope in 1993, and it’s grown to span more than 420 acres. Chardonnay is largest white grape variety, and Greg Fries creates a delicious, tropical and balanced example from his Oct. 4 harvest. The theme of Gala apple, butterscotch, lemon curd, hazelnuts and Juicy Fruit gum comes with a medium-bodied structure from the four months on the lees in French oak, yet there’s ample acidity.
